Pupae in particular are protected in a cocoon that resists sprays and can wait weeks to hatch. That's why a single treatment "works" for a few days and then fails — the next wave emerges. Real control breaks the whole lifecycle with treatment timed to catch newly hatched fleas.

Do I have fleas if I don't have pets?

Ticks matter for a different reason: disease. Several species in the Tallahassee area can transmit illness to people and pets, and they lurk in tall grass, leaf litter and along the wooded edges so common in Killearn, Bradfordville and the rural county.
