How to judge pest control reviews
Look for specifics, not adjectives
"Great service!" tells you nothing. A useful review names the pest, the neighborhood, what was found and whether it stayed fixed: "Had German roaches in our Midtown apartment — they baited, coordinated with the neighboring unit, and three weeks later they were gone." That's evidence.
Check whether it stayed fixed
The most valuable reviews are written months later. Any company can appear successful for two weeks. Whether the pests stayed gone through the next season is the real test — look for "months later, still nothing."
Read the negative ones properly
A company with zero negative reviews is either brand-new or curating. What matters is what the complaints are about and how the company responded. A defensive reply to fair criticism tells you more than the criticism did.
Watch for manipulation
- Clusters of five-star reviews posted within days of each other
- Reviews that all use the same uncommon phrasing or the company's marketing language
- Reviewer profiles with a single review and no history
- Generic praise that could describe any company in any city
